The Beauty of Winter Harp

What an absolutely unique experience. With rain pouring down on the roof of the exhibition hall in Harrison Hot Springs I was swept away to a medieval time by the gorgeous music of the harp. Each song performed was introduced with a lively narrative by an orator skilled in the fine art of storytelling.

The evening offered an ensemble of harps, flute, percussion, medieval instruments, poetry and song all artfully shared through the passion and skill of the cast of players. Directed by Lori Pappajohn of Vancouver, the Winter Harp is an amazing cast of unique and talented performers who whisk you away to another time and place. From their gothic attire to the the set itself, the voices melt together and bring to life every story with the unique sounds and tones of the instrumentation. Winter Harp is an experience that truly transports each listener to a magical place where the heart and mind dance together with the melody of medieval music and song. An absolutely enchanting way to begin the Christmas Season.

Loreena McKennitt s primary instrument is the harp but her primary technique is to take a traditional folk song and supersize it with strings modern rhythms and lush orchestration. Celebrate the yearly return of the light with songs full of Celtic soul poignancy and fire! Soaring vocal harmonies lyric harp and haunting penny whistle combine with the earthy tones of accordion and drums to bring us music that speaks of the land and its seasons.
